What Do We do

As the Nation's agency, the KIHS collects, monitors, analyzes, and provides the hydrological information. Our diverse expertise enables us to conduct nation-wide investigations and provide the impartial hydrological information to water resource managers, planners, and other customers.


On January 1, 2007, the KIHS was established by the master plan of MOLIT (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport). As the sole hydrological survey agency in Korea, our responsibility was to produce reliable hydrological information. Our mission expanded to include instrument inspection, education and training of employee, investigation of river and basin characteristics, and related R&D.

The KIHS serves the Nation by providing the hydrological information to describe and understand the water cycle and water use; minimize loss of life and property from natural disasters; manage water and energy; and enhance and protect our quality of life.


The KIHS is a Nation leader in the investigation and research of water resources through our engineering excellence and responsiveness to society's needs.
